- Optional preamble INCLUDED: per the plan ("probably yes ... it lowers friction") and per
  research design principle 2 (plain language). One sentence only. Kept short to preserve
  the under-400-word legal-body cap and to avoid diluting the load-bearing text.
- Deliberate narrowing vs the Individual CLA template, per plan U2 + research design
  principle 1 ("the simplest legitimate CLA wins by default"):
    - NO moral-rights waiver. US software work rarely triggers moral rights; EU/UK
      jurisdictions often treat such waivers as void anyway. See research Section 2a.
    - NO standalone third-party-content disclosure section. Folded into the original-work
      representation as a single clause ("...or have the right to submit it...").
    - NO standalone AI-disclosure section. Per research Section 2c + design principle 6,
      AI-assisted contributions are accepted under the same originality framing as any
      other contribution; the contributor takes responsibility regardless of tooling.
      Projects that want explicit AI-disclosure language should adopt the Individual CLA.
    - NO no-warranty / notification-of-inaccuracy / entire-agreement boilerplate. The
      legal substance is preserved by the license-grant clauses themselves; ceremonial
      sections cut for brevity.
- Bracketed placeholders match the agentcla convention used in the other templates:
  [PROJECT NAME], [CONTACT EMAIL], [GOVERNING JURISDICTION].

FOR COUNSEL REVIEWER:
- Confirm the license-scope incantation is safe to borrow verbatim from Apache ICLA / Google
  ICLA without attribution (it has been treated as terms-of-art in practice for over a decade,
  but a counsel sanity check is worth the five minutes).
- Confirm that omitting an explicit no-warranty disclaimer is acceptable given that the
  governing-law clause exists and the contribution is not being sold. The Individual CLA
  retains its no-warranty section; the Simple CLA's narrower posture relies on the absence
  of consideration and the project's outbound license to handle the warranty question.
- Confirm that folding third-party-content disclosure into the original-work representation
  ("or you have the right to submit it") is sufficient for the typical small-project use
  case, with the understanding that projects needing richer warranties pick the Individual CLA.
- Confirm the patent-license scope ("only those patent claims ... that are necessarily
  infringed by your Contribution alone or by the combination of your Contribution with the
  Project") is the intended narrowing and tracks Apache 2.0 section 3 phrasing closely
  enough to be defensible.

# Simple Contributor License Agreement

In plain English: by signing, you let [PROJECT NAME] use, change, and share the code or other work you submit, and you confirm that you have the right to submit it.

## 1. Definitions

"Project" means [PROJECT NAME].

"Contribution" means any work you intentionally submit to the Project, including code, documentation, designs, or other material, and any changes to existing work.

"You" means the person signing this Agreement.

## 2. Copyright License

You grant the Project and everyone who receives software from the Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to use, reproduce, modify, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute your Contribution and any derivative works of it.

## 3. Patent License

You grant the Project and everyone who receives software from the Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable patent license to make, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise transfer your Contribution. This patent license applies only to the patent claims you own or control that your Contribution alone, or your Contribution combined with the Project, would infringe.

## 4. Your Right to Contribute

You confirm that each Contribution is your original work, or that you have the right to submit it under the terms of this Agreement. If your Contribution includes any material you did not create, you will identify the source and the license that applies to it when you submit it.

## 5. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of [GOVERNING JURISDICTION].

You may revoke this Agreement for future Contributions at any time by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]. Revocation does not affect Contributions you already submitted.
